 Frequently Asked Questions

  • Occupational Therapists help people live more independently by supporting their ability to manage everyday activities. This might include assistance with tasks at home, improving access to the community, exploring housing or driving options, or finding technology that supports mobility and accessibility.

Occupational Therapy is a university-qualified health profession, regulated by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Occupational Therapists take a holistic approach, working with individuals, groups, and communities to promote health and wellbeing through meaningful participation in daily life.

In this context, "occupation" refers to the everyday activities that give our lives structure and purpose, what we do to care for ourselves and others, connect with society, express our identity, and build a meaningful life.

No matter your situation, our Occupational Therapists will work with you to understand your goals and challenges, then provide tailored support to help you do the things that matter most safely, confidently, and as independently as possible.

  • A Functional Capacity Assessment (also known as a Functional Capacity Evaluation) is an independent assessment that looks at your abilities, needs, and level of functioning. Its main goal is to ensure you receive the appropriate support and funding to help you achieve your goals and meet your daily needs.

At N-Able Therapies our clinicians are trained to carry out these assessments objectively, using standardised tools where appropriate. We consider all aspects of your life your functional abilities, current supports, daily living skills, participation in work or community life, and your personal goals and aspirations.

The assessment process typically includes a face-to-face or telehealth session, consultation with relevant parties (with your consent), and a comprehensive report. This report is shared with both you and the NDIA, helping inform decisions about the type and level of support included in your NDIS plan.

  • Ongoing capacity sessions are regular Occupational Therapy appointments that focus on building and maintaining a person’s ability to participate in everyday life. They are designed for people who need more than a one-off assessment and benefit from ongoing therapy to work toward their functional goals.

These sessions are suited to individuals who:

    • Need regular therapy to develop or maintain independence.

    • Benefit from guided practice and skill-building.

    • Require monitoring and adjustment of strategies, equipment, or routines.

    • Want support in daily living, mobility, self-care, work, study, or leisure activities.
